Mount Manatee: 23-29 January 2011

Mammal sightings:  mule deer with bucks bucking; haven't lost antlers yet.

Bird sightings: Sunday everyone was out in anticipation of the snow which happened Sunday night/Monday morning about a day late. mountain chickadee, hairy woodpecker, downy woodpecker, pygmy nuthatch, crow, magpie, Steller's jay, Cassin's finch, dark-eyed junco.

Basement renovation: final inspection Monday; books and stuff being moved into shelves, etc; closed filled with heavy coats, laundry room fully operational; insulating pipes in utility room, fixed self-closing fire door to garage,

Weather: sunny, snowy, snow melting when the sun came back out;

Target practice: tested the Glock 19 and the Ruger LCP .380 out in Pike National Forest on Sunday.

Mount Manatee: 16-22 January 2011

Mammal Sightings:  red fox, pine squirrel, mule deer

Bird Sightings: hairy woodpecker, downy woodpecker, magpie, crow, Steller's jay, mountain chickadee, pygmy nuthatch, white-breasted nuthatch, Cassin's finch, dark-eyed junco,

Photography: moved wildlife cam to a new location; no results yet.

Weather: Unseasonably warm; sowed the wildflower seeds;

Basement Renovation: Missing electrical components installed; awaiting electrical reinspection and final inspection; laundry room fully functional; electrical inspection passed; moved bed and futon in; moving books in.

Whiskey Report: Sampled drams of Rosebank 19 year old, Aucher_oshan 16 year old, Cambus 18 year old, Glenkinchie 21 year old, and Linlithgow 26 year old.  The latter will definitely cure whatever ails ya.!

Beer Report:  sampled the new 'double red' at Bier Werks in Woodland Park.  9% EtOH.  Filled the growler with it.

Mount Manatee: 9-15 January 2011

Bird Sightings:  All the birdies were out on the 9th in anticipation of the snow storm in the evening:  hairy woodpecker, downy woodpecker, Cassin's finch, crow, magpie, Steller's jay, mountain chickadee, pygmy nuthatch, white-breasted nuthatch, red-breasted nuthatch, evening grosbeak.

Mammal Sightings: mule deer, pine squirrel, red fox

Reading Report: Working with the NookColor.- Mark twain stories.  OS upgraded automatically.

Basement Renovation: 6 weeks have passed and the work is not done; still needs drywall touchup, painting, electrical, bathroom mirror installation, final painting touchup, final cleaning; electrical inspection failed, rescheduled.; dryer booster fan works like a champ.

Guns: maybe get out in the National Forest and try the Glock 19. Or maybe not.

Snow Report: a few inches of dry fluffy stuff Sunday night; snow plow piled it up in front of the driveway and the snow blower made quick work of the mound.  Snow melted.

Whiskey Report:  Consuming various drams.

Mount Manatee: 2-8 January 2011

Bird Sightings: mountain chickadee, dark-eyed junco, pygmy nuthatch, crow, Cassin's finch, evening grosbeak, black-billed magpie, black-capped chickadee, brown creeper,

Mammal Sightings: mule deer, pine squirrel, red fox (one with broken left hind leg/ankle)

Photography: wildlife camera report - lens covered with snow when things were happening.

Basement Renovation: tile grouting completed, wood stairs installed, stuff delivered; trim being completed, electrical work being done, new cold air return duct installed. Stairs completed. Some electrical operational - fire alarms, roof heat strip, some lights, garage circuit.  Upstairs shower partially complete - major communication failure between tile company and installer.

NookColor: ordered; order delayed due to large demand; but received earlier than expected.

Reading - Finished the Grafton series; catching up on EQMM.  Downloading books to the NookColor.

Real Work: Reviewing proposals for IMLS; Reviewing ASM new web page; FAS Medalist 2011 nominee reviews. - all done

Whiskey Report:  Package from the UK finally arrived; whiskey package intact but one of the rum drams had leaked.  Inside of the rum package had been redone with duct tape and popsicle sticks.

Weather - unseasonably warm.

Mammal Sightings:  mule deer, pine squirrel, Abert's squirrel, red fox; another round of FeederWatch.

Bird Sightings:  Bald eagle, Cassin's finch, mountain chickadee, pygmy nuthatch, black-billed magpie, American crow, Clark's nutcracker, downy woodpecker,

Basement Renovation: laundry room and garage entry tile in place; bathroom tile set and heating mat tested; door frames being installed; trim being installed; still dusty everywhere

Snow - several inches Thursday PM, butt cold; but as the snow came down the red foxes came out; Friday morning the deer were everywhere looking for food and basking in the sun on the slopes.  Honda FIT doesn't do well on packed snow.

Bird Sightings: American crow, black-billed magpie, Steller's jay, mountain chickadee, pygmy nuthatch, Cassin's finch, dark-eyed junco, white-breasted nuthatch, northern flicker, hairy woodpecker, possible Clark's nutcracker,

Weather: still unseasonably warm. A touch of snow that melted quickly.  Temps in the 40sF.

Basement renovation: more dust; drywall finished, primer paint applied, final paint applied; shelves installed, outside siding replaced and painted; master shower/tub demolished and plumbing restructured; washer connector fixture replace.

Wildlife camera checked - after a week on the trail only two deer, several people and a bunch of snowflakes.

Mammal sightings: mule deer, red fox, pine squirrel

Bird sightings: not very exciting - mountain chickadee, pygmy nuthatch, white-breasted nuthatch, American crow, black-billed magpie, hairy woodpecker, Cassin's finch.

Basement renovation: drywall and plenty of dust. EVERYWHERE

Weather report - unusually warm and sunny on Monday, critters are hanging out in the woods and other places where real food can be found. Stayed warm all week.  Highly unusual to have this warm weather according to the locals
